The First Weekend

| | Comments (0)

This has been quite a fast-passing, productive weekend.

On Friday eve, I drove down. Quick drive. Didn't stay up late, but did wake up early, at 0630. There was an odd glow to the room. It wasn't too bright like the sun was up. But it was light in a way I could not adequately explain. So off my air-mattress I rolled (as that's the only way you can), drew the blinds to look out westward across the horizon. FOG! It's that strange, splendid substance which provides such a comforting feeling of enclosure, of warmth, ironically enough. It had been years since I had seen fog of that density, of that measure. I could see down the block all of 5-6 cars.

Saturday was otherwise mostly dedicated to the maintenance of my vehicle. I dropped my truck off across the highway at the Toyota dealership. I found out it took about 30 mins to make the trek from the dealership to my flat on foot - mostly due to the fact that I have to walk about 1/4 mile down to the overpass, then back up. i realized I'm looking forward to getting out & walking, biking, and exercising more.

The day time I sat around waiting. TWC was due out about 3:30 to hook up my cable modem connection. So I futzed around, got my new computer setup, got my RAID array moved over to the new box, etc. Then the truck was ready about 1:45. Trek back across the highway. It was much warmer now, tho - I shed some the layers of clothing I had packed up from the morning journey.

From there, I went grocery shopping - for the first time in San Diego. The first time is always a bit awkward. New store, new neighbourood. Is this store going to be ghetto? Will it be upscale? Or just "ordinary"? Turns out this Albertsons (at Balboa/805) was pretty nice! However, I wasn't even half way thru the store when the cable guy called - he was 45 mins early! So I cut it short, did their self-checkout (which is jenky!) and rushed home (5 mins away).

TWC guy brought me the Interweb. I was happy. Life was good.

Sunday was alright. To make it short, I ran some errands - same trepidation with these stores as with Albertsons. Went to Michael's and got some fake plants for a decorative planter. Then over to Best Buy to get Turbo Tax and see what movies they had. From there, over to Joann Fabrics (sorta new Sea World) to get some fabric to re-cover the chairs of the dining room set my mom is giving me. From there, back home.

DirecTV guy show up about 2p. I wasn't overly impressed with him, but he finally got the job done about 5:30p -- that should tell ya how hard it was. It wasn't actually that hard, this guy was just.... well, perhaps not having a good day.

After that, my 'gut feeling' started having a bad feeling about things. Not sure about what to be honest. At first I thought it was the Sat dish (this monster of a thing sitting out on my front balcony), but I don't think so. I think it had to do with waking up at 3a and driving into LA into work. So 8p I packed up & headed back to LA. I remember feeling that things felt really foreign, sitting around the flat. So I'm looking forward to having everything moved down there and making the place "mine."
