I actually feel somewhat comforted hearing the jets coming/going from MCAS Miramar every day. They take off overhead our office from the base. Various aircraft, all day long. There's a certain feeling of safety with the reminder that they're there. I know some of my more liberal friends may be going "Nooooo!" right about now. :)
"Pursue the things that drive your passions."
I went to the inaugural meeting of DC619 last night. One gent showed off some XSS javascript stuff. Neat. I reinforced (within myself at least) my place in that world - that of facilitator.
I woke up this morning with the thought running thru my head "pursue the things that drive your passions."
It was interesting, even last night as I'm driving to the event, how odd it is I have such trepidation and anxiety over new groups of people, or singular new people, at a purely social level - and yet I jump at the chance to goto a DC619 meet, with people I, just as with pure-social-situation, have no idea who they are. Perhaps it's different in that I know that community, I know what drives them, I understand the people in that community (the DC-type community) and therefore don't fear the rejection and judgment as I would in a purely-social setting.
As such, I think I may disengage with the extra-curricular training I was pursuing. I need to focus on passions right now, and it's not a passion.
I feel like the last couple weeks, while difficult & at times painful, have lead to this. Things do happen for reasons, even if we don't understand them at the time.
I'm on my THIRD phone call session with DirecTV this afternoon. The first two times I got disconnected. It seems my original DTV account got "disconnected" and a new account setup to replace it; this screwed up my last payment. Now they can't find my last payment at all (so I have to fax in documentation PROVING I made a payment before they'll lift a finger).
But it just gets me, too, when ya call up and get a fellow with an obviously non-American accent, but goes by the name of "Robbie" or "Dan" or "Shannon" (the 3 people I've spoken with tonight so far). And then they just cannot properly understand English 100%. Maybe they do fine to 85%, but when you make anything but the most simple sentences - well, at least they are trying to repeat "now let me see if I understand you correctly, sir...". *sigh* It's the fact that customer service has to be sooooo difficult in the first place that gets to me.
I'm now on the phone with William; he sounds like a 'local' and he seems to have a good grip on the situation (or at least understands my concerns, and is just as confused as I am right now) :)
Went to LayerOne 2007 over the weekend - great time. Good to see all my friends, talk tech, relax, and NOT WORK AT THIS CON! :)
Pictures are posted.
Then for work, I went to the Santa Monica Studio on Monday, and a studio in Burbank on Tues. I'm back home A-OK, although my allergies have kicked-in. I like to think that I've developed an allergy to LA.
Got to hang out with Jesse on Mon nite down in Long Beach. Great to see him, we caught up on life & stuff. He's a good guy with a lot of potential, I like having him and people like him around.
