So I was thinking...

| | Comments (1)
Random thoughts when driving home the other nite, about blogging.  I see so many other people use blogs as a way to "network" -- to show off their stuff, usually in a semi-professional/semi-job-related way.  Props to them, you have to use the many tools available to you to get ahead in the world today.   But me, not my style.  My blog is my personal space, and I always try hard to separate work life from personal life.  Add into that that I've been "blogging"  before the term "blog" was coined.  Can you believe I've had a website and been using it to update friends about my life for over 13 years now?!  And as such, I'll write what I want :)  I should be clear that this was not inspired by, say, someone saying something about my site/blog... not at all.  This was, again, just random stuff I was thinking about while playing in traffic.  Oh, and hi Richard.  (he loves that haha).

Next weekend is the Texas/ou game.  They're ranked #4, we're #7 (going into today).  We play K-State today.  I have to see how we do today before I form any opinions about how we might do next weekend.  Man, I would so love to goto that game one year.  Maybe I can get Vernon, Richard, Jon, others(?) to pre-plan it one year well in advance.

I haven't decided if I'm going to the UT/Nebraska game yet.  I should, I need to, it's a moral imperative.  I'll know more maybe next week.  It depends on my confidence in the Santa Monica work that weekend.

I had to stop playing WoW (tonight, just tonight).  The guild (and I guess other folks in IF) were on a quest to name as many Murloc-based movies as possible.  I captured a few of the good ones and thought I'd share:

  • 28 Murlocs Later
  • Gunga Murloc
  • The Murloc Wears Prada
  • One Flew Over the Murloc's Nest
  • Resident Murloc

  • Memoirs of a Murloc
  • Chasing Murloc
  • The Stepford Murlocs
  • The 30 Year Old Murloc
  • Murloc Rogue
  • The Murloc of my Affection
  • A Murloc Named Desire
  • Fried Green Murlocs
  • Don't Tell Mom the Murloc is Dead
  • Desperately Seeking Murloc
  • Driving Miss Murloc
  • So I Married A Murloc
  • Murlocs in Black
  • Revenge of the Murlocs II: Murlocs in Paradise
  • Kiss of the Murloc Woman
  • Blazing Murlocs

RAIN!

It is raining - finally!  It's a light drizzle.  It'll be gone within the hour I expect (if not sooner).  But it's a very nice change of weather.

Just one year of love
Is better than a lifetime alone

That's how the song starts out.

I am reminded that Sept is almost over - and October approacheth.  Oct 12th marks one year since...

One year ago feels like a lifetime.  Did I have my year already?  It may be gone and in the past now.

Lately I've been thinking a lot about how life is a collection of moments.  Cherish those moments.  It is inbetween them that life happens.  The good moments and the bad - collect them, hold them close, wrap yourself up in them.  Life, you see, is short, but we can live forever in those moments.

Terrorist Day, 9.11.07

It was interesting how many people "called in sick" yesterday (I am up at Santa Monica Studios).

The deed I came up here to do is done.  Did it on-schedule.  Went fine.

Today (9/12/07) I am in total stress reduction mode.  There's a lot of work up here to do, and I feel very confident in getting it all done.  But there's such a sense of stress just rolling off me now.  I think after hitting the pub with Skroo last night and having a good nite's sleep that it's finally all starting to "shed" now.  It's never easy what had to happen, it was a decision a long time coming; a lot of thought, deliberation.  It was the right thing to do, there is absolutely no doubts about it.  But it's never easy.

Over the next day or two I'll be able to return to a state of balance.

Tonight I'm planning on hanging out with Mikey (friend from Texas who moved out to LA when I did, back in 2003).  Thurs nite time with Maggie & Corey.  Fri nite I'll try to hit IVU on the way home.  Then Stress Relief Weekend early Saturday morning.

UT Update

This week UT played TCU.  We played poorly the first half and it was 10-0 at the half.  The 2nd half we came back to win 34-13.  Half that in the last 10 mins.  I went camping, so I had my DVR record the game.  Since the A&M game went over (by 3 OT's!!)(more on that soon) I lost the last 10 mins.  So *then* I checked the final score online, checked the play-by-play.  We made a couple TD's and a FG I think.  When the game cut-off it was 17-13.

So... A&M played Fresno State.  29-29 at the end of the 4th.  Took 3 OT's to get to 49-47 A&M.  I'm glad for a Texas-based win (whenever anyone from Texas plays, I root for the Texas team).

But after the weekend games...the ranks went
 UT:  From #7 to #6 (+1)
 A&M:  From #23 to #25 (-2)

And to think my dear friend Seth was thinking UT would go down and A&M go up.  I've already sent him my love :)

Weekend Update

Overall, a really good weekend.  Had a "fight" (strong disagreement?) with a friend of mine.  It'll pass.  Everything else was great.  Another friend of mine, we went for coffee late one night in La Jolla and sat down by the beach til 2am just talking and chatting.  Beach at nite = mmmm!  I've always loved the beach.  It's so calming and mentally relaxing to just watch the waves--and especially at night.

Went 4-wheeling across Otay Mountain on Sunday.  It was an easy trek across BLM land.  Took a bunch of pix (I should post a few in the gallery) -- there's this big hill (sm mountain?) that has a bunch of antennas just over the border into TJ.  Got some pics of that.  I wasn't sure, looking out over the valley there, where the US/MX border was.  So yesterday I sat down with Google Earth and, using landmarks and where I remembered I took pics from, got the same angle and perspective I had in the pictures--and realized I was a LOT closer to the board than I realized! (within 1 mile!).  That was one of those geek-fun moments :)

Then yesterday -- after being up half the nite at the beach - I slept in til noon (lazy, huh!).  I'd been short of sleep lately, so it was good to catch up.  About 3p I headed up to Cleveland National Forest, above Pine Valley, and did some hiking.  Took more pics (yes, should post some of those, too).  Great views.  Summit there was about 6,000 ft.  Easy hike, about 1.5mi long forest trail.

There's a lot to hike around here!  I grabbed a couple of trail books (for both hiking and truck driving) Sat morning from Barnes & Noble.  I'll try to make time to do more of it.  I'm also thinking of some camping opportunities as it cools down a bit.  Tho it was quite nice up there at 6K ft.  I might try it on my own just to get away.

Last night I made some strip steaks, home made mashed potatoes, and broccoli.  Made an utter mess of my kitchen, of course.  But it was yummy :)
