January 2008 Archives
Huge rain storm rolled through this weekend. Fri nite, and again Sat nite. Rained on/off today. VERY windy. Last night I sat up late just listening to the rain on the roof, and the wind gusting against the building.
Steve P. and his currently b/f were in town this weekend. Got to have dinner with them Friday nite. It must have been 6 or 8 years since I've actually SEEN Steve in person. He looks great, has aged quite gracefully I'd say haha. Although I admit we were all skinny geeks when we all met back in 1994 haha.
Otherwise, today's been very quiet. I did go out & get Burnout Paradise for PS3 today. I've lost all faith in the closest Target, here in Kearny Mesa, to have ANYTHING I want. I ended up going up to the one by the office (ish), in Mira Mesa. They had it. Also gave me a chance to swing by the office & pick up my new ARRL study guide. Yes, I think I'm going to try to make an effort to get my Ham Technician License. I've talked about it on/off for 10 years. I think I first started talking about it in 1997 (shortly after getting my first Yaesu handheld for DefCon)-- I even have the ARRL study book from 1997. I found it last week, didn't realize it was SO old! So I got through 2 1/2 chapters tonight. It's easy reading. I'll study for a few weeks, make sure I have the questions down, then sign up to take the exam.
They're offered every weekend around here, various places. Dave & Heather will be proud :)
But yeah, other than running to the office & Target, I was indoors all day. Stomach's bothering me tonight so I think I'm about to head off to bed.
OH! And I think the "Russian Mafia" guy(s) moved out today! Thank goodness, he(they?) was a bit of a jerk. Place has been up for sale for a couple months. Don't know if they found a buyer, or are just moving out. Either way, good riddance.

There's nothing like a big social event to make me remember my S.A.D. is kicking in =) But it was fun nonetheless. People-watching is never without it's moments!
It was also nice when my best friend put something up online about me (he may have put it up a while ago and I just never noticed). In a section labeled "heroes" he put:

Steve, for being a friend through the good times and bad; never letting situational matters affect the true friendship.I had a Moment(tm). As alone as life can be sometimes, it's good to remind yourself, or be reminded by your friends, that it's not a solo journey. Clay's like a brother to me--nothing that life serves him or I will ever change that.
The cam-version of the new Star Trek XI teaser trailer have hit the web (it's being shown with Cloverfield). It gives me hope that maybe...just maybe...J.J.Abrams won't screw it up. Of course we have to wait til Christmas 2008 to see it. Perhaps it will re-invigorate the franchise? Perhaps that's wishful thinking. Nonetheless, I will be looking for the full teasers to hit the web (Mon/Tues, is the rumour).
Today marks one year since my dad passed away. I'll keep this short and keep the thoughts about that to myself.
